My dell xps400's cd/dvd stopped working. It still read cds but not dvds. any help here?

try cleaning it (the lens) sometimes that help. if not afterwards I am afraid you will have to buy a replacement.
besides mash's horror story verbs the lens and then if that dont work repeat the drivers then have an idea that about a replacement
or freshly buy a dvd drive
MIGHT BE A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. DID YOU CHECK DEVICE MANAGER TO SEE IF ITS HAS A TROUBLE SIGN THERE?IF YOU KNOW THE MAKER YOU CAN GET NEW DRIVERS FROM THEIR WEBSITE.
GET MAKER AND MODEL NUMBER AND GO TO THEIR SITE.YOU CAN TRY SYSTEM RESTORE IF YOU KNOW THE LAST DAY IT WORKED
