Can you carry a topical Intel Processor to replace an elderly one?

Use you almanac or the Internet to find the cpu's that you mother board will accept. Make sure that you gain exactly the CPU's that fall inwardly the specs of your board. If you are still not sure than take the specs beside you to a retail store. Then go to pricewatch.com to find out what the cost would be to upgrade to a faster cpu that your board will adopt. Then see if you can get it at a local retailer for close to duplicate price.
it depends first you have to find out what your motherboard is and what cpu's it can support
