Apple Mac repair...hold you ever tried to repair it yourself?
Apple Mac repair...hold you ever tried to repair it yourself?
Desktop Macs are exceedingly accessible! upgrades are easy, and after warranty is up... I've be known to troubleshoot. I've added memory, added a bluray drive. As far as repair... I close to to go to my local tech store (or the Apple store) for anything beyond software problems and simple installs.
Had you asked going on for the laptops... it would be very different!
Are you have a problem or just hitting the closing of your apple care coverage?
yes I fix them myself when the warranty is up.
why not?
it's only just a computer.
I thought Mac's didnt have problems...? :)
yeah, you throw it within the garbage and buy a unsullied one
Sure!
I'm a bit of a techie when it comes to that stuff, but I've done processor upgrades, replaced CD Rom and not easy drive mechanisms, fixed power supplies, added HDs and RAM... even a few component-level repairs such as soldering contained by a new serial port connector surrounded by an older tool.
You don't say which tool you have, but the G4 and G5 towers are really glib to work on. You pop open the side and everything is accessible.
Laptops are a different story. I only just put a larger HD in my PowerBook G4... It be an adventure getting the point open. I couldn't own done it without the detailed instructions I found online. Not that it's difficult, but you requirement to know how it's done.
I think the most time consuming Mac repair I've done be replacing the HD in a clamshell iBook. I am not exaggerating when I vote the entire machine have to be taken apart.
The skill/patience level vary with the type of repair, but I'm not afraid to try anything.
peace
